Castle followed in her parents' footsteps, proving to be an accomplished lawn bowls, netball and tennis player in her youth. Castle's first major job came at printing company Fuji Xerox, where she was the marketing manager for eight years. Castle then moved to Telecom New Zealand, where she ran the business marketing department for two years.
In her six year tenure Castle also served as a director of the first trans-Tasman netball competition - the ANZ Championship - and as a director of the International Netball Federation. Castle played a major role in setting up the ANZ Championship, which has since split as both Netball Australia and Netball New Zealand set up their own domestic competitions.
Netball NZ had a 66 percent increase in commercial revenue during her time in charge, through broadcast deals and sponsorships, as per the Netball NZ website.
